Cosina is well known for making lenses in the M-mount, but I do not believe that they have made lenses under the Leica Banner name. Kyocera who made the Yashica and Contax cameras and lenses on the other hand made amongst other lenses the Leica R 35-70mm f4 Vario Elmar and Leica R 80-200mm f4 Vario Elmar lenses that were very well thought of. Rich For nearly twice the money you can get the Canon 28-135 USM with Image Stabilization (IS), which is another good consumer quality lens. Tamron's 24-135 is also reputed to be very good at a price somewhere between the 28-105 f/3.5-4.5 USM and the 28-135 USM IS. The problem with any of these is the lack of a real wide angle setting on the DRebel.

The only thing with the copy I just got is the fungus behind the front element. I first took the nameplate off and later found out the way to remove the front element and clean the fungus. The lens corrected my impression on Cosina made Vivitar's. Actually the Vivitar 50mm f/1.7 and f/1.9 made by Cosina are pretty good as well.
